What is the Home Renovation Savings Program?

The Home Renovation Savings program is designed to make energy-efficient home upgrades more affordable. By participating, you can reduce your energy consumption, lower your utility bills, and create a more comfortable living environment. The program provides rebates for a variety of upgrades, with options to choose single upgrades or bundle multiple upgrades for even greater savings.

How Does It Work?

The program offers two paths to savings:

1. Upgrades Requiring a Home Energy Assessment (Bundle and Save!)

  • To qualify for these rebates, you’ll need to start with an initial home energy assessment by a registered energy advisor. This assessment will identify the most effective energy-saving upgrades for your home.
  • Complete at least two eligible upgrades.
  • After the upgrades are installed, a follow-up assessment is required.
  • Receive rebates for eligible upgrades, and a $600 rebate to offset the cost of the home energy assessments.
Eligible Upgrades
  • Heat pump water heaters: $500
  • Windows and doors: $100 per rough opening
  • Insulation (attic, wall, foundation, exposed floor): Up to $7,700
  • Air sealing: Up to $250
Caulk being used for air sealing.

2. Upgrades Not Requiring a Home Energy Assessment (Choose Single Upgrades)

These upgrades offer rebates without the need for a pre and post-renovation energy assessment. Only one upgrade is required:

Eligible Upgrades
  • Heat pumps: Up to $12,000
  • Solar panels and battery storage: Up to $10,000
  • Smart thermostats: $75

How to Apply

Application for the Home Renovation Savings program depends on the path you chose above.

For bundled upgrades that require an assessment:

  • Schedule an Assessment (If Required): For upgrades like insulation, windows/doors, air sealing and heat pump water heaters, fill out the form on the official program website to get a list of Service Organizations in your area. Contact one to schedule your initial assessment.
  • Get a Custom Report: Your energy advisor will provide a report with recommended upgrades. Choose at least two upgrades from the “Upgrades Requiring a Home Energy Assessment” list.
  • Complete Your Upgrades: Hire a qualified contractor to complete the installation. Important Note: For heat pump installations, you must work with a participating contractor. Kawartha Eco Climate Control is proudly one of these:
  • Schedule a Follow-up Assessment (If Required): If you had an initial assessment, schedule a follow-up assessment with the same registered energy advisor after the work is complete.
  • Receive Your Rebates: Rebates will be issued after your energy advisor submits all necessary documentation.
For singular upgrades, this depends on what type of device is being installed:

  • For Heat Pumps and Solar Panels: An elegibility form needs to be filled in before a contractor is hired and the upgrades completed.
  • For Smart Thermostats, either:
    • A code can be generated before you purchase your new thermostat.
    • The rebate can be applied for within 60 days of purchasing your new thermostat.

Is Your Home Eligible?

To participate in the Home Renovation Savings program, you must:

  • Own your home.
  • Live in an eligible housing type: single detached or semi-detached home, row/townhome, or mobile home on a permanent foundation.
  • Meet heating requirements:
    • Be an Enbridge Gas customer with an active account and primarily heat your home with natural gas, or…
    • Be connected to the Ontario electricity grid and heat your home with electricity, propane, oil, or wood.

Heat Pump Information

As an AC service provider, we want to emphasize the benefits of heat pumps for both heating and cooling. The Home Renovation Savings program offers rebates for installing high-efficiency heat pumps, which can significantly improve your home’s comfort and reduce your energy costs year-round.

We offer a variety of heat pump options, including those from Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Bosch, and Gree and Ductless Mini-Split options.

Heat Pump benefits

  • Efficient Heating and Cooling: Heat pumps provide both heating in the winter and cooling in the summer, replacing the need for separate furnace and air conditioning systems.
  • Energy Savings: Compared to traditional electric heating and air conditioning, heat pumps can significantly reduce your energy consumption, leading to lower utility bills.
  • Improved Comfort: Heat pumps provide more consistent and comfortable temperatures throughout your home.
  • Environmentally Friendly: By using electricity instead of fossil fuels for heating, heat pumps help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The program provides rebates for both cold climate air source heat pumps and ground source heat pumps. Specific eligibility requirements apply to heat pump installations.
