Helping You Switch to Cleaner, More Affordable Heating
Are you tired of high oil heating costs? The Canadian government’s Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (OHPA) program can help you switch to a new, energy-efficient heat pump system, potentially saving you thousands of dollars annually while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We’re here to help homeowners in Peterborough, Lindsay, Lakefield, and the surrounding areas understand and access this program.
You can find out more about the benefits of installing a heat pump at our installation page.

Is Your Home Heated by Oil?
If you’re a Canadian homeowner heating your home with oil and your household income is at or below the median household after-tax income, you may be eligible for up to $10,000 in upfront funding to make the switch!
What the OHPA Program Offers

The OHPA program provides financial assistance to help eligible homeowners transition from oil heating to new, energy-efficient heat pump systems. Here’s what’s included:
- Up to $10,000: Funding for the purchase and installation of an eligible heat pump system, helping to greatly offset the conversion cost.
- Eligible Associated Measures: The program also covers related costs, including:
- Necessary electrical and mechanical upgrades to your home. For ductwork upgrades or installations, see our ductwork installation services page.
- Safe removal of your oil tank.
- Installation of a supplemental electric heating system (if required).
- Switching over other oil-using household systems (e.g., electric water heaters, where necessary).
- Installation of outdoor piping loops for ground-source heat pumps
- Upfront Payment: In most cases, you’ll receive a cheque before you have to pay for any of the related costs. This helps make the switch more affordable and manageable.
Important Notes:
- This funding can be combined with other federal, provincial, territorial, and utility programs for even greater savings, such as the Greener Homes Grant.
- A home energy evaluation is not required to apply for the OHPA program.
- It is your responsibility to verify and adhere to all relevant regulations regarding oil tank removal. While the OHPA program covers the cost of removal, it doesn’t mandate it.

Protect Yourself from Scams

It’s important to be aware of potential scams. Here’s what you need to know:
- Be cautious of high-pressure sales tactics. Some companies may falsely claim to be affiliated with ENERGY STAR® or Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).
- NRCan does not endorse unsolicited contact. NRCan never approves third parties to contact homeowners without being asked.
- Government and program representatives will not contact you unsolicited. The Government of Canada, NRCan, and its brands (ENERGY STAR, EnerGuide) never solicit homeowners via telephone, email, or door-to-door to inspect, sell, or rent heating and cooling products.
- EnerGuide evaluations are only done by request. EnerGuide home energy evaluations are performed by licensed service organizations, and only at a homeowner’s request.
- Homeowners must apply themselves. Third parties, including contractors or energy advisors, cannot apply for the OHPA program on your behalf.
