Hybrid Heat Pump & Furnace Systems

The Efficiency of Electric. The Security of Gas.

A hybrid system pairs a high-efficiency electric heat pump with either your existing compatible furnace or a new high-efficiency two-stage furnace with a variable-speed blower.

How Does a Hybrid Heating System Work?

The heat pump handles the majority of heating throughout the season, including cold winter temperatures. A programmed balance point is set based on your home’s specific heat loss and current energy costs.

When outdoor temperatures drop beyond that balance point, the system transitions automatically to the gas or propane furnace for supplemental heating. The heat pump continues to operate efficiently across a wide range of outdoor conditions. The furnace provides support only when it becomes more economical or necessary.

"We had Shane's company install a heat pump hybrid system... Our new heat pump is working beautifully. Shane and his crew were great to work with—excellent communication, reasonable pricing, and efficient work."

Benefits of Hybrid Heating

  • Lower gas consumption
  • Reduced overall heating costs
  • Flexible energy strategy
  • Improved summer cooling performance
  • Option to retain a compatible existing furnace
  • Option to upgrade to new high-efficiency equipment

Smart Controls & Thermostats

We install and configure smart thermostats (like Ecobee) to manage the switching logic and optimize your system’s performance automatically. Financing options are available for complete hybrid system upgrades.

Hybrid Heat Pump Pricing & Costs

A hybrid heat pump system can help reduce gas or propane usage by allowing the heat pump to handle much of the heating season, while your existing furnace remains in place for backup heat. Typical price ranges include:

  • Standard Hybrid Heat Pump System: $8,800 – $12,000+
  • Premium Mitsubishi Hybrid System: $16,000 – $18,000+

Note: Pricing varies based on your home’s electricity needs, system sizing, and installation complexity.

Note: More complex systems can still be higher, depending on brand, refrigeration platform, electricity needs, backup heating, ductwork, crawlspace/basement access, and installation complexity.
